Justin Jelen, D.C.
Dr. Justin Jelen became the third chiropractic physician at
Active Living Chiropractic in 2011. He stresses the crucial nature of properly
functioning musculoskeletal, immune, and nervous systems to achieve optimal
patient health. He is an adamant believer in the importance of a natural,
holistic approach to patient care. Dr. Jelen ardently emphasizes patient
education and ultimately giving his patients the knowledge, confidence, and
tools necessary to take an active role in their recovery to optimum health and
future injury prevention.
Dr. Jelen’s integrated approach to treatment includes the
co-management of patients’ new and existing conditions with other healthcare
professionals—including medical doctors, physical therapists, massage
therapists, and naturopathic doctors. Personally connecting with the patient as
a whole person and catering treatment to suit each individual patient are
principal aspects of Dr. Jelen’s vision for peak patient health. Treatments may
include chiropractic manipulation, specialized active rehabilitative exercises,
electrotherapies, functional taping, and postural and biomechanical analysis. He
specializes in nutrition, incorporating comprehensive diet analysis and
nutritional counseling as vital elements of his treatment.
Dr. Jelen grew up outside of Chicago, Illinois before relocating
to New Orleans, Louisiana to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise
and Sport Science from Tulane University. He then moved to Portland where he
received his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western
States. He is a certified provider of Graston and Active Release Technique
(ART), both of which are highly effective, state-of-the-art soft-tissue mobilization
techniques. He has experience treating athletes of all levels at various sport
events throughout the state, such as the Portland Marathon, Pacific Crest
Triathlon, Nike Special Olympics Med-Fest, and even the Columbia Star
Ball ballroom dancing. Personally, Dr. Jelen remains as active as possible, by playing
basketball, hiking, road cycling, and triathlon training.
