TECHNIQUES
At Active Living Chiropractic, we utilize a variety of techniques in order to optimize your healing and tissue repair. Below is a brief summary of just a few of the state-of-the-art techniques that are utilized at our clinic.
MASSAGE THERAPY
Our experienced therapists are trained in and mostly focus on deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy. Deep tissue massage, or myofascial release is the application of specific stretching forces in order to break up unnecessary adhesion, restore flexibility and circulation, and improve range of motion in the muscles, joints, and fascial tissues. Trigger Point Therapy involves manually dispersing inflammation and improving blood flow at the trigger point through specific direct pressure to the knot, followed by Myofascial Release to break up any adhesions, restore range of motion, and further improve circulation.
REHAB/PHYSICAL THERAPY
Exercise is a critical component of any rehabilitation or performance optimization program. All the health professionals at Active Living Chiropractic are highly trained and keep up to date on the latest research and innovative exercises. Whether it be to enhance performance, optimize function, decrease pain, or speed your recovery time, we customize your exercise program to help you reach your goals. Exercises also allow you to take an active role in your care both at the office and in the comfort of your home. Exercises are also used to help correct muscle imbalance, which is important to optimize your flexibility, stability, power, endurance and agility, while decreasing re-injury rates.
Acupuncture is one of the major treatment methods used in Eastern Asian medicine. Like all healing techniques used in this ancient medical system, Acupuncture works with the body’s inherent vital energy, or “Qi” (pronounced “chee”). Early practitioners of Eastern Asian medicine discovered that this vital energy flows along specific pathways called “meridians” or “channels”. Acupuncture points are specific locations on the meridians which, when stimulated with either finger pressure or acupuncture needles, are able to affect the flow of energy through the meridians.

Though no one knows precisely how this happens, modern research has been able to demonstrate that the acupuncture points are indeed physiologically different from non-acupuncture points in that they are areas on the body which have increased electrical conductivity. Researchers have also found that the slender needles induce the release of endorphins and cortisone which are the body’s natural pain killers.
COLD LASER THERAPY
Cold Laser Therapy utilizes specific light wavelengths to interact with tissues and is thought to accelerate the healing process. It can help alleviate pain, swelling, reduce muscle spasms and increase functionality in patients with acute and chronic conditions. Cold lasers are handheld devices that are placed directly over the injured area for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the condition being treated.
GRASTON TECHNIQUE
The Graston Technique® is a remarkable procedure that allows us to detect and treat areas of scar tissue or adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments. Scar tissue can lead to pain and dysfunction because the replacement tissue lacks the strength and flexibility of healthy tissue. Scar tissue may even mat down and entrap nerves, causing pain, numbness, and loss/decreased muscle function. The Graston Technique® allows us to utilize stainless steel instruments to "break up" restrictions or adhesions. Graston® promotes increased functioning of individual muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which ultimately allows tissues to work optimally as a functional group.
PHYSICAL THERAPY MODALITIES
At Active Living Chiropractic, we incorporate the latest physical therapy modalities including Ultrasound, Interferrential Treatments, Russian Stim, Low Volt Therapy, Ultrasound/Combo, Pre-Mod and Microcurrent into the treatments. These technologies allows to effectively target injured tissue to relax muscles, decrease inflammation, spasms, and pain, correct muscle imbalances and accelerate healing times.
RAPID RELEASE TECHNOLOGY
Rapid Release Therapy (TM) is a revolutionary breakthrough in therapeutic technology focused on relief of soft tissue problems affecting nerves, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. RRT was designed at the ground up to operate at a very high frequency with a very small stroke, thus producing fast, lasting results. In addition, this frequency is in a range that is known to relax muscle guarding or spasms. This lightweight, maneuverable Targeted High Speed Vibration device is unique and in it’s own class.
ROCK TAPE
Rock Tape is a taping technique that is utilized to reduce pain and inflammation, activate underutilized muscles, and relax overused muscles and tissues. Rock Tape has an elastic property that allows for different degrees of support and stability for joints and muscles without compromising range of motion or circulation. Restriction of motion can be undesirable and inhibit your ability to perform on the field or on the job, which makes Rock Tape advantageous over traditional restricting sports taping. Due to its elastic properties, Rock Tape can also help decrease swelling and bruising. The tape can be applied with a light stretch; which allows lifting of the skin just enough to facilitate more efficient drainage of excesses fluids. Lastly, research has been shown that Rock Tape can reduce the effects of training by decreasing fatigue and increasing healing times, which helps you to recover faster so that you can perform better.
NUTRITION
We are strong believers in the power of proper diet, nutrition, and, if necessary, supplementation for enhancing exercise performance, expediting recovery from an injury, assisting in the prevention of any further injuries, or successfully managing one’s weight. We offer diet analysis, nutritional advice, and programs that we cater to your individual needs, including a highly successful weight management purification program/cleanse that will assist your body in the removal of any harmful toxins that it has been exposed to over time. The appropriate nutrition may be your missing link to combat headaches, fatigue throughout the day, difficulty sleeping, immune challenges, weight gain, reduced mental clarity, food cravings, digestive and other gastrointestinal problems, and even low libido. We hand select our supplements and nutritional products from a few of the most highly regarded nutritional companies available, and ensure that all products we utilize are of the utmost quality, the best absorption rate and bioavailability for our bodies, and are backed by the highest levels of research.
OPTOGAIT
Dr. Bermudez is one of the very few physicians in the world who utilize the OptoGait technology to objectively evaluate patients and athletes of all ages and ability. The OptoGait system is used by all US Olympic Training Centers, the US Military at West Point, and Professional Sports Teams throughout the USA & Europe to efficiently and effectively evaluate human performance. Optogait can quickly and accurately evaluate gait (the rhythmical execution of your body's joints, ligaments, and muscles as you walk), running, jumping, balance, reaction, fall prevention, efficacy of your orthotics/braces, and much more.
NORMATEC
NormaTec utilizes dynamic compressive and pulsating technology that closely mirrors the body’s natural muscle contractions to accelerate the healing process. NormaTec is great for pre or post workout to recharge. Any activity level can benefit from the advantages of rapid recovery. Come check it out!
